2    No More Silence.

    The sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. in collaboration with the sisterss o f Lambda
    Pi Chi and Omega Phi Beta Sorority Inc. have come together to bring to Syracuse campus
    a workshop unlike any other Domestic Violence workshop you have ever attended.

    These three hard working sororities come together for one main cause: to further educate
    our peers and our community at large about Domestic Violence.

    This isn't your typical sit-back and listen lecture style workshop...

    Bring your minds open, be ready for the unexpected, and be prepared to leave with a lasting
    impression.

 

1    Magdalen Hsu-Li : Redefinition of Identity.
    Where:
HBC Gifford Auditorium
    When:
Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 7:30 pm

   Magdalen Hsu-Li is a bi, feminist, Asian-American music artist, speaker, and cultural activist.
   She will be presenting a lecture concerning the redefinition of identity.

   A one hour interactive “human interest” lecture exploring the search for “cultural identity” through the personal
   story of the presenter as an out, Asian American, woman growing up the rural south, overcoming obstacles such
   as racism, prejudice, stereotyping, homophobia, bi-phobia within the LBGT community, filial piety, and a severe
   disability (Tourette’s Syndrome), allowing for a greater level of understanding about identity among student
   participants. 10-15 minute Q&A at the end of the lecture.

 

3    Xiaojing Liu : "Butterfly's Dream."
    Where:
HBC Kittredge Auditorium
    When:
Wednesday, April 22th, 2009 at 7:30 pm

    Xiaojing Liu is a graduate of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications
    where she earned her master’s degree.  For APA Month, Xiaojing will show an 85-minute screening
    of one of her films called “Butterfly’s Dream.”  This film is about a Chinese graduate student at
    Newhouse School’s TRF program and the struggles and challenges she faces as a student who wants
    to pursue her dreams and love while coping with cultural obstacles that come in her way. After the
    screening of the film, Xiaojing will have a Q&A session and an interactive discussion with her audience
    regarding the film.  Ninety percent of this movie was filmed in Syracuse University.
