. What is RUSH?
Rush is a period of time in which fraternities and sororities try to
recruit members. If you choose to participate, you become a rushee.
Throughout the rush period,
sisters hold a mixture of free events in which we try to give you a
bigger picture of who we are, what we do, and what our chapter is like.
Rush is also a time for the sisters to get to know you better. Come
out, be yourself, have some fun along the way, and see if Kappa Phi
Lambda is right for you!
. Are there any COMMITMENTS made during rush?
There are absolutely no commitments or promises made during rush, so don't worry
about feeling any kind of obligations. This is just a time for us to get to know each other in a comfortable and relaxed environment.
. Do I have to be ASIAN to join?
No, you do not have to be Asian to join! We are an Asian-interest, NOT
an Asian-exclusive sorority. We welcome anyone who is interested in
promoting cultural diversity on and off-campus, providing service to
others, as well as becoming part of an everlasting sisterhood. We have
many different nationalities represented within Kappa Phi Lambda, and
as a cultural sorority we encourage as much diversity as possible.
. What is a BID and how do I get one?
A bid is an invitation for you to become an intake for our sorority given out at
the end of the rush period. In order to be eligible for a bid, you must
be a full-time student at Syracuse University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 You must also fulfill the rush requirement, which is attending a certain number of events including the FORMAL GIM (General Interest
Meeting). Although, freshmen are not allowed to take part in the intake process first semester, we strongly encourage everyone to come out to the rush events to get a head start on getting to know the sisters and the sorority.
. I received a bid! Now what do I do?
If you receive a bid, you
will be given 24 hours to decide if you will accept or reject the bid
to start the intake process. Upon accepting the bid, your journey to become part
of the Kappa Phi Lambda sisterhood will begin through the intake process.
. What is the INTAKE PROCESS? I heard a lot of bad stuff about it...
The intake process begins shortly after accepting your bid. There are no specific
guidelines on how long or how hard it will be. However, we can tell you
that the intake process is NOT easy but rather a challenge for you to learn more
about yourself, your line sisters, and the sisters of Kappa Phi
Lambda. The intake process is also a BIG time commitment, and something you need
to think about seriously before accepting our bid. We ask everyone to
think about this process as any other goal you wish to achieve. It may not
be easy, but with your hard-work and dedication, you will appreciate
the sisterhood you earned that much more to uphold the secrets and wear
the letters of Kappa Phi Lambda with pride and passion.
. I want to be an intake but I'm worried about my schoolwork...
First and foremost, you are here at Syracuse University to receive an education. This is something we tell our intakes from the very beginning. School should always come first no matter what and as a sorority that stands for academic excellence, we would not want you to fail your classes under any circumstances.
. Why choose Kappa Phi Lambda?
We are the first and only recognized Asian-interest sorority here at Syracuse. We know that there are many other sororities on-campus and we encourage you to explore your options as much as you can before choosing one. We understand that Kappa Phi Lambda is not for everyone but we highly encourage you to come to our rush events and see why we are so different and unique from a lot of the sororities here at Syracuse University.
. How do I know if a sorority is right for me?
Everyone joins a sorority for their own reasons. Many people join to
party more, meet fraternity guys, or believe that being part of the
Greek life makes you cool. We can say that there is A LOT more to a
sorority than that meets the eye, but we can't tell you what the right
reasons are to join. One good way to look at it is if you truly believe
in
what the sorority stands for and want to be part of what they do, then
it probably is right for you.
