Kappa Phi Lambda was founded on three pillars: sisterhood, service, and cultural diversity. As much as we like to have fun, we also stress the importance of giving back to our community. Community Service is a BIG part of being a Sister of Kappa Phi Lambda. We have done numerous community services such as, but not limited to, Adopt-A-Street, Alterra House, Vera House Gift Wrapping, Crop Walk, Light the Night Walk, Comstock Kidfest, Dome Donation Day, Chili Bowl Festival, etc.
Philanthropy is a very important aspect of Kappa Phi Lambda. Our national philanthropy is the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum. Kappa Phi Lambda has continuously donated to this national organization which benefits Asian American women. Independent from our national philanthropy, we donate every semester to our local philanthropy, Vera House, for Women Against Domestic Violence. In addition, we raise canned goods and money during our Annual Philanthropy BBQ to donate to the Salvation Army. We, also, make contributions to events that other organizations on campus hold.
As an Asian-Interest Sorority, we strongly believe in promoting cultural awareness, not only about the Pan-Asian culture but others as well. We attend many cultural events held throughout the school year by different cultural organizations. Most importantly, as an organization built on cultural diversity, Gamma Chapter founded Asian Awareness Week held annually during our founding week in November. During Asian Awareness Week, we hold several cultural events ranging from hosting forums, bringing in guest speakers, holding a talent show, and etc. We actively participate in Asian Pacific-American Heritage Month which is held annually in April at Syracuse University. |
